Mopping is not my favorite.
But 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
So how do I do things I don’t enjoy to the glory of God and to adorn His great gospel?
“Older women … are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands, and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” Titus 2:3-5
Here are four ways that I want to honor God in my work in the home this week:
1 – Be thankful for those chores that I particularly dread. The mere doing of them puts to death my selfish laziness: the gospel is at work in my life and is making me look more like Christ! Rejoice!
2 – Realize that the extra effort is worth it. When I clean the counter in a way that pleases my husband it not only serves my husband, but ultimately by honoring my husband I am honoring the Lord.
3 – Seize opportunities to die to my selfish desires. As I care for sick children, I should see their grumpiness and neediness as opportunities for me to love with the compassion of Christ. Instead of becoming embittered with them as interruptions in my day and my plans, I rejoice in God’s plan to sanctify me.
4 – Remember my calling! When I am tempted to think that more important ministry comes in serving those outside my home, I remember that in my faithfulness to my family, God’s Word is made much of!
What about you? What are some ways you can honor God in your work this week? Please share!

Thanks so much Melanie for this great reminder! I find it really easy to have a complaining attitude when I have boring tasks to do around the house, but this helps to keep things in perspective!
Thanks Melanie! It’s amazing how my “default” is to grumble and complain about the things I ought to do, and so selfishly desire to do things that are of no eternal benefit. Thanks for helping me keep my day in perspective of the gospel.
Very wise words!! I had this big battle between my ego and God over emptying the dishwasher every morning. I know i should be thankful to have a dishwasher at all, but my reality was that living in a house with 4 adults i was pretty angry that i was the ONLY one who did this job…. ever. I spent days (…um.. weeks..) grumbling in my spirit about this until one day God clearly told me to do it for Him. Serve HIM in this small way. I have to admit that this has become one of my favorite hang-out times with God in the wee hours
Thanks Melanie.
I just stumbled upon your blog and am so glad I did! As a young girl, going to college and getting educated was the main thing I was told to focus on. Now that I’m married and have children, I have struggled significantly…no one prepared me for THIS! I am bookmarking you and plan to learn from you! Thanks so much!
